One of my highlights of my Fall season was going to be raising my arms in the air in exultation as I crossed the finish line of the New York City Marathon in Central Park. Sadly, one of the lowlights of the year struck on October 29th in the form of Hurricane Sandy. The complete and utter devastation suffered from this terrible storm was unimaginable by tri-state residents. While I was totally disappointed at the cancellation of the marathon I totally understood that it was the right thing to do.

 

From the day this storm struck Zachys and I were committed to using the NYC Marathon as a vehicle to raise awareness for the suffering that we could ALL work to alleviate for so many area residents. 

 

When the race was cancelled on the afternoon of November 2nd I was directed towards the Las Vegas Rock’n’Roll Marathon as they had done two very interesting things:

 

1. They extended an offer to all NYC Marathon participants that 20% of all entry proceeds would be donated to Hurricane Sandy relief

2. They chose to support the same cause and same charity as Zachys did – FEEDING AMERICA

 

 

I am a little disappointed I now have to string out my marathon training until December 2nd (Raceday) but in watching all the suffering that continues to go on post-Sandy it is my inspiration to all that I can in our efforts. No longer am I running for me personally...but for all those people who are in such great need after the storm.
